Orpheus Piano Trio

Brahms, Ravel, Arensky

Castlemaine-Albury based chamber group, The Orpheus Piano Trio, are delighted to return to the Capital Theatre in Bendigo.

They will present a program centred on two rarely performed works for piano trio, namely Arensky’s Piano Trio in D Minor and Ravel's Mother Goose Suite.  Russian composer Arensky (1861 – 1906) was an integral part of the Russian musical world of his day. Piano Trio No. 1 in D Minor Op.32 is one of his most successful works, and was dedicated to the memory of the legendary Russian cellist, Karl Davidoff.

The trio will also present an exciting rendition of Ravel's Mother Goose Suite which was originally composed for four hands on piano, and later transcribed for piano trio by Australian composer and pianist, Benjamin Martin.

The performance will also include accompanying narrative by famous Australian author, Peter Goldsworthy, as reflections and insights on each of the stories behind the movements.

The concert concludes with Brahms’ fiery final Piano Trio in C minor, unusually brief but packed with action.
