Welcome to 2018. A year marked in our region by our designation as the first Victorian Regional Centre for Culture. This designation comes about in no small part due to the recognition of this region as a vital and vibrant cultural destination, strongly celebrating the arts and culture in all of its forms.

We are proud to represent this designation of Greater Bendigo as a principal contributor to the year-long calendar of events and consider our annual season of performing arts is an important part of that cultural offering.

Our seasons for 2018 range from powerful topics like the refugee experience through to Aussie classics like Norman Lindsay’s The Magic Pudding, from Circus created by two of Australia’s iconic circus companies through to beautiful and immersive drama exploring the role of Christian faith in our society.

Our musical offerings also cover a huge range from Opera Australia’s newest version of Puccini’s vast and powerful Madame Butterfly through to the intimate experience of our newest musical presentations in our Parlour Sessions, or indeed the “razzamatazz” of two of Australia’s most loved performers and close friends, Nancye Hayes and Todd McKenney in Bosom Buddies.

We have also added a dedicated season of intimate drama performances in The Engine Room for next year. We are very proud of this offering with the powerful and topical political drama of A Prudent Man, Ilbijerri’s beautiful and funny Which Way Home, the historic retelling of the relationship between authors, Henry Lawson and Mary Gilmore in All My Love and the warm and hilarious autobiographical work Hello, Beautiful! written and performed by the wonderful Hannie Rayson.

On top of all of this we continue to present iconic events such as the Bendigo Writers Festival and the Bendigo International Festival of Exploratory Music. This year we have also added Enlighten, a festival of projection art celebrating the city’s cultural diversity.

This summary only skims the surface on what we have to offer in 2018. I’m proud that we are able to once again bring to you such a varied, extensive and quality range of performances. We hope you enjoy our rich offerings and thank you for all of your support. We look forward to seeing you in 2018.
