Ennobled by improbable facial hair, burdened by a vast, lovable incomprehension, and dignified with cavernous vocal chords, The Spooky Men's Chorale have been gleefully smashing up and reassembling the world of men's singing since 2001, employing a devastating combination of beauty and stupidity to comment on the unsolvable paradoxes of being a man. Arising from the Blue Mountains in NSW, the Spooky Men have appeared at festivals throughout Australia and will tour the UK for the 7th time in 2017. The repertoire, which began with a simple combination of Georgian table songs, immaculate ballads and vaudevillian nonsense, has expanded to include sly and witty commentary on their own favourite body parts, a surfing anthem, and a mock Sufi ode to the Bee Gees. The Spookies make their first visit to Bendigo in April, offering a generous smattering of the usual spooky humour in an afternoon to warm your heart and put a pleasant curl in your musical whisker.
“Highly theatrical, they veer from weird to touching and back again. Grown-up entertainment in the best, most infantile way. Don’t miss an opportunity to see them” – Daily Telegraph
“It IS spooky. You’re listening to what sounds like archangels singing ethereal harmonies. But it’s a bunch of boofy men from The Blue Mountains, with a wise guy out front wearing a furry deerstalker hat” – Brisbane Courier Mail
“Do see them live – it all makes perfect sense then …or does it?! Certainly once seen they are never forgotten! Beautiful singing; very sharp and witty lyrics" – Mark Radcliffe, BBC Radio 2
“A tsunami of Georgian male voice polyphony” – The Scotsman
